Crazy casting rumors are nothing new to Batman. They started five minutes after Christopher Nolan finished making Batman Begins and they probably won’t stop until the movie is almost in theaters. The latest is one of the weirdest, though perhaps no weirder than Heath Ledger playing the Joker, and that turned out to be true.
With the Joker settled, the rumor-mongering is all about who will play Harvey Dent, the District Attorney who eventually becomes one of Batman’s arch villains Two-Face. In Tim Burton’s Batman movie he was played by Billy Dee Williams, in Joel Schumacher’s it was Tommy Lee Jones. Batman On Film says that in Christopher Nolan’s next Batman movie he may end up being played by Jamie Foxx.
He’s one of several names they’ve gleaned from the always unreliable “anonymous source”. They’re also suggesting Edward Norton and Eion Bailey may be up for the role. Bailey is someone who apparently tested for the role of Batman in Batman Begins, and now he’s supposedly getting consideration for another role. Edward Norton’s people have already denied his involvement, but denials aren’t always the honest truth.
Call me crazy, but of the three actors up for the part I like the idea of Jamie Foxx best. I can see him as a lawyer, but more importantly I think seeing what he could bring to Harvey Dent down the road, once he turns into Two-Face could be fascinating. In the comics, the character is usually portrayed as a white man, but if Billy Dee Williams played him then why not Jamie Foxx.
Like most Batman Begins sequel rumors, this will no doubt turn out to be vapor, but the idea of Foxx as Two-Face is exciting.
