Wednesday, August 16, 2006 Now that Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures and Christopher Nolan have officially announced that the sequel to the critically acclaimed Batman Begins will be titled The Dark Knight and will see Heath Ledger play Batman's arch-nemesis The Joker, rumors are starting to flood in about who else will star in the highly anticipated sequel.
While details of the story are more secretive than Batman's alter-ego some interesting news has appeared that claims Ryan Phillippe is close to being cast as Harvey Dent, aka Two Face. The role of Harvey Dent has seen the likes of Liev Shreiber and Josh Lucas battle for the part with Shreiber remaining fan's most popular choice.
The casting isn't concrete but it certainly could have some truth to it, Ledger's casting was unexpected (Lachy Hulme and Paul Bettany were vying for the role) but fans reaction has been positive. The announcement of Phillippe's possible involvement eerily echoes Ledger's casting and it would also place the character within the same age-bracket as Christian Bale and Ledger.
Regardless of who lands the role of Harvey Dent they couldn't possibly do a worse job than Tommy Lee Jones campy effort, as seen in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever.
