All Star Batgirl is set to be released by DC Comics at the end of the year. Geoff Johns and J. G. Jones will work on the first six issues. it will be a monthly series and it will not take place in the continuity of All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder. When I heard about this I was hoping it would be another colaberation between Frank Miller and Jim Lee. Jones is the artist doing all the covers for the "52" series.

ALL STAR LADIES Wonder Woman and Batgirl add some girl power to DC's exclusive All Star club in 2007

Can the All Star ladies hang with the big boys? DC Comics finds out when Geoff Johns, J.G. Jones and Adam Hughes deliver a much-needed shot of double-X chromosome to the male-dominated line. This summer, Hughes (Catwoman covers) takes on both art and writing duties for the first six issues of the ongoing All Star Wonder Woman. And in the fall, writer Johns (Action Comics) and artist Jones (52) launch a six-issue All Star Batgirl mini-series starring fan-favorite Barbara Gordon. Here’s what to expect when the ladies come to play!
ALL STAR BATGIRL
Readers have been waiting a lifetime—or at least since Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke put Barbara Gordon in a wheelchair—to hear the words “Batgirl” and “going back to basics” in the same sentence. Next year, Babs fanatics will finally get their wish. In All Star Batgirl, Johns and Jones promise to deliver Commissioner Gordon’s vigilante daughter in all her original teenage, girl-next-door, ass-kicking glory.
“We’re trying to do a very iconic, basic Batgirl story for everybody, starring Barbara,” says Johns. “We’re really focusing on her breaking up the boys’ club of Batman and Robin, and her meeting all Batman’s enemies, and her delving into this world and really trying to reconnect with her father. Grant [Morrison]’s done an amazing job on All Star Superman—anybody can pick that book up—and we want to do the same thing for Batgirl.”
Jones, who will also be drawing the cover of every issue, reveals it will be their version of the “Batgirl: Year One” story. “But it’s not going to be the standard story where the first villain is Killer Moth,” Jones adds. “We’re doing an All Star book, so it’s going to be a different take.”
Still, most importantly…will Barbara be a redhead? “Oh, hell yeah!” exclaims Jones. “The red hair goes so well with that costume. And I think I’m going to stick close to the original costume, too.”
Johns reveals that a Batgirl story of this nature has been in the works for some time. Originally pitching the tale as an arc in All Star Batman & Robin, the writer instead opted for a clean slate and his own Batgirl universe to play around in, free of continuity. “This is kind of our chance to do what Darwyn Cooke did in New Frontier,” says Johns, “our own world and our own take on what the Batman universe would be.”
The book also gives Jones, whose last interior artwork was on Top Cow’s gritty Wanted, the chance to spread his Bat-wings. “It’s gonna be a bit of a different flavor for me,” says Jones. “When we see Batman’s Gotham, it’s usually dark and gritty and shadowy. But, to me, [Batgirl’s] a 17-year-old girl who’s come into this big city for the first time. Her eyes are big and bright, so I want neon signs and light, like the first time you go to Times Square—it’s exciting and new. I wanted to take a look at Gotham through her eyes. I’m going to try and bring a different flavor, a different bounce to this.”
A different…bounce? “No, not an Adam Hughes ‘giant boob bounce,’” he laughs. “She’s not going to be overripe, let’s put it that way.” And speaking of Adam Hughes…
And then there was some stuff on Wonder What's Her Name.

Sounds cool a friend of mine and me were just discussing what would make batgirl better. Our answer create her own name as a crimefighter and fight her own villains rather than tagging along with Batman and Robin.
